CANNABIS: CATCHING UP ON THE CONVERSATION

What should you know about cannabis (marijuana)? How are you supposed to engage in conversations about cannabis as a follower of Jesus? What about engaging in these conversations with the teenagers in our groups -- how should you approach the conversation? In this lab, we will discuss all aspects of cannabis: chemical make-up, effects, statistics, the positive, the negatives, legalization, and the teachings of our Biblical authors.

PERSONAL DISCIPLINES OF A SPIRITUALLY + EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY YOUTH WORKER

Perhaps you’ve heard it said that the greatest tool for ministry you have is your own life, lived authentically and passionately for Jesus. But how can you cultivate rich personal disciplines so that you are able to do ministry from a life that is full of spiritual and emotional health? This Learning Lab will explore tools and practices that will help you care for your own soul so you are better equipped to minister to students.

This Learning Lab will explore one of the Core Competencies that we believe are important to be a well-equipped youth worker. LEARN MORE

CROWD SOURCED LEARNING LAB

You have ideas that need to be shared across the country, so for the first time ever at CYWC we are turning the tables and making YOU** the communicator in our Learning Labs. On Saturday, you’ll be able to select from one of the following questions to join in and give us your answers, ideas, thoughts, or suggestions. You’ll also get a chance to hear from other youth workers who have ideas that we know you’ll want to learn from. Then, at the end of the weekend, we’ll compile all the ideas into one master document of brilliance and ship it back to you.

**Special note to all the introverts that are now nervous and sweaty, thinking someone is going to make them talk in front of a crowd of strangers -- participation by giving ideas is purely voluntary. =)

How do you connect with the student who has disconnected from your group?

How do you maximize the weekend away retreat or event that you have with your students?

What do you do to challenge the student who is clearly making unwise choices with their sexuality?

What do you do before and after your mission trip to make it a big win for your ministry and your students?

1

How do you create bridges over transition times in your teens' lives?

What are some great games you lead spontaneously that don’t require any equipment AND are fun for students?

If you had to plan a great talk or Bible study in under an hour, how do you do it?

Learning Labs 3 – Saturday 2:00pm-3:00pm

MESSING WITH MY HEAD: UNDERSTANDING MENTAL HEALTH + YOUTH

When we talk about vulnerable teens, those with mental health difficulties find themselves near the front of the line. So what does a youth worker who cares about them need to know to walk with these kids well? In this Learning Lab we will explore practical frameworks and tools so that you'll be more equipped to help and care for the teens you know who are wrestling with their mental health.

MEDIA.FAITH.CULTURE

As Christians, we need to actively be involved with our culture without blindly accepting it as true. Pascal said it wonderfully, “The greatest enemy of the spiritual life was inattention, complacency.” No more thoughtless watching. No more thoughtless listening. No more thoughtless online activity. No more thoughtless anything… Christianity is a strategic, intentional daily pursuit.
